Serie A Historically Poor in the UEFA Champions League

Inter, Como, Roma, and Napoli were all defeated in the second round of the UEFA Champions League group phase. It's the first time in history that every Serie A representative has lost in the same matchday of the top continental competition, Mediaset reports.

To make things worse, three of the four teams took the lead in their respective matches but squandered it. In the end, they collectively conceded 14 goals and scored 8.

The Lariani are the only Italian club to win a fixture so far and would qualify for the playoffs at the moment. Instead, the other three would be eliminated.

Serie A has had a 0.5-point average in eight combined UEFA Champions League tilts. La Liga and the Premier League lead such chart with 2.4.

Several countries, including Ukraine, Portugal, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Greece, Norway, and the Netherlands, have done better so far. Inter, Como, Roma, and Napoli have 18 more points at their disposal to try to turn things around.

The Azzurri coach Massimiliano Allegri is continuing a particularly woeful trend in the cup. According to Tuttomercatoweb, considering his time at Juventus, he has notched eight losses, one draw, and just one win in his last ten European contests.

Our Take on Serie A in the UEFA Champions League The most worrying part is that two supposed juggernauts, the Nerazzurri and the Lariani, didn't even come close to beating inferior opponents on paper. Instead, the Partenopei have looked out of sorts in most matches regardless of the competition.

Moreover, it feels like, as in previous editions, the Italian outfits are underestimating the importance of avoiding the playoffs and overlooking smaller adversaries.
