In a recentreport, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Sunderland are among the clubs keeping tabs on Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Tyler Morton. It is believed that the Black Cats would have to compete with Liverpool, Newcastle United, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion in the race to land the English talent next year.

Morton's Impressive Form In Ligue 1 This Season Morton has enjoyed a good run of form at the French club in this campaign so far as he has been responsible for putting in a few impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 23-year-old has scored one goal in ten appearances for Lyon this season across all fronts.

The English talent is currently among the most talented central midfielders in Ligue 1. Hence, it is no wonder that the Black Cats are hoping to bring him back to the Premier League next year.

Morton's current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2030, so Sunderland would have to make a convincing offer if they want to win the race for his services. Morton loves a tackle and can scan the danger well to make some crucial interceptions for his team in the middle of the park.

He usually clears the danger when needed and is a tidy passer as well from midfield. The English sensation can even chip in by scoring the odd goal for his team.

Morton mainly functions as a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. He already has some experience in the Premier League from his time at Liverpool and wouldn't take any time to adjust to life at Sunderland if they manage to snap him up next year.

We can expect Morton to add more energy and dynamism to Regis Le Bris' midfield department. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Stadium of Light and could serve as an ideal long-term successor to Granit Xhaka at the Wearside club.

At 23, Morton will only improve with each season. Hence, Le Bris would be wise to go for a player with his skill set this January or at the end of this campaign.
