Sunderland to stick with manager Regis Le Bris despite club rock-bottom of Premier League

Sunderland are set to stick with manager Regis Le Bris despite the club's disastrous start to the Premier League campaign, per BBC Sport. The Black Cats have won just one of their nine league games andcurrently sit rock-bottom of the table.

Sunderland's last top-flight victory came in August against Fulham. Since then, they have lost five and drawn two of their previous seven matches.

Le Bris' men most recently suffered a 3-1 defeat to newly promoted side Coventry City on Saturday. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Taiwo Awoniyi and Jack Rudoni all scored for Coventry before Enzo Le Fee pulled one back for the visitors in the 67th minute.

Sunderland's Omar Alderete was sent off for a second yellow card, as they fell to their sixth defeat of the campaign. Despite recent results, Le Bris retains the full backing of the club's board.

They believe he can turn things around soon. Sunderland host Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League on Thursday.

A home fixture against Chelsea is scheduled on Sunday before the next international break. The French boss has performed an impressive job at the English club since joining from Lorient in 2024.

He led them to Premier League promotion in his first season. The Black Cats defeated Sheffield United 2-1 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley to return to the top-flight after an eight-year absence.

Under Le Bris, Sunderland made a stunning start to life in the Premier League last season. They secured a double over Chelsea and also forced Arsenal and Manchester City to share points at the Stadium of Light.

Their levels dropped during the second half of the campaign, otherwise they were on course to secure Champion League qualification. Sunderland eventually finished seventh in the standings to qualify for the Europa League.
