SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil Secures Dominant 7-0 Victory in Badminton Bundesliga
SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil secured a commanding 7-0 victory away against TV Refrath on the fourth matchday of the Badminton-Bundesliga, leaping from fifth to third in the league standings despite missing five regular squad members. Facing a severe personnel shortage due to injuries and tournament commitments, team captain Kai Schäfer stepped out of his coaching role and onto the court to help deliver the shutout win.
The Wetterau club established early control during the doubles fixtures on October 28, 2026. Julie Macpherson and Debora Jille opened the tie with a three-set victory in the women's doubles, while Mads Vestergaard and Daniel Lundgaard followed with a four-set win in the first men's doubles.
The newly recovered William Kryger Boe and Danial Marzuan then claimed the second men's doubles in straight sets to establish a 3-0 lead. Yvonne Li overcomes early deficit in five-set thriller The most tightly contested match of the day came in the women's singles, where Yvonne Li faced a steep uphill battle against TV Refrath.
After dropping the opening two sets, Li rallied by narrowly taking the third set 13-11. She maintained the momentum through the fourth and fifth sets to complete a dramatic comeback victory.
Following Li's marathon win, Mads Vestergaard and Julie Macpherson returned to the court for the mixed doubles. The pair delivered a dominant, straight-sets performance to bounce back from recent struggles and extend the visiting team's lead.
Coach Schäfer steps onto the court to seal the sweep With five regular starters unavailable due to tournaments and injuries, Dortelweil's depth was thoroughly tested in the singles events. Phillip Kryger Boe took the first men's singles, while team captain Kai Schäfer-primarily serving as coach-returned to competitive action to secure a straight-sets victory in the second men's singles.
Phillip Kryger Boe closed out the fixture by taking the final match of the day in three sets, cementing the clean sweep. The 7-0 scoreline lifts Dortelweil into the top tier of the league table as the squad pursues a berth in the Final Four tournament.
