Tosin Adarabioyo set for first Premier League start for Tottenham against Coventry City tonight

Tottenham are still in search of their first EPL man. Seven weeks after joining from Chelsea, Tosin Adarabioyo is set to make his first Premier League start for Tottenham.

Sami Mokbel of the BBC reported on Monday evening that the 29-year-old is in line to start against Coventry City at the CBS Arena tonight, Gameweek 8 of the 2026-27 season. Adarabioyo joined Spurs on September 1 for £7 million from Chelsea, where he spent two seasons and made 70 appearances across all competitions.

His time at Stamford Bridge included a Conference League winner's medal in 2025 and a Club World Cup triumph the same year, where he was named in the Team of the Tournament. He came off the bench on his Spurs debut against Everton on September 12, then started the Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool three days later.

But Premier League minutes have been limited since, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero the established first-choice pairing when fit. Van de Ven's hand injury, sustained while being stepped on during Netherlands' 2-1 win over Serbia in the Nations League on October 4, has created the opening.

The extent of the injury kept the Dutchman out of the Brentford fixture on October 18, and with Romero also managing a knock, De Zerbi appears to have turned to Adarabioyo to fill the void against a Coventry side sitting 14th in the table after seven games. A player with pedigree stepping in at the right moment Adarabioyo is not a squad filler.

He captained Chelsea for the first time in October 2025, made 41 appearances in his debut season at the club, and brings composure and range of passing that fits De Zerbi's style. Spurs have one Premier League win from seven games.

Tonight is a chance to add another.
