A Tottenham star has made the seven-man shortlist to be named the best player in the Premier League across gameweek seven. Tottenham fans had to wait a long time to see their team register their first league win of the season, but the wait was worth it as there were some huge positives for the Lilywhites from their 3-1 win over Coventry City.

Tottenham's attack suddenly looks a lot more formidable following the return of the two attackers, potentially giving Roberto De Zerbi some selection headaches ahead of their London derby against Chelsea on Saturday.

However, Maddison showed in his first start in 18 months that his importance to the Tottenham side cannot be overstated. MORE SPURS STORIES The attacking midfielder, who has made a habit of scoring long-range goals across his Premier League career, opened the scoring with a worldie on 14 minutes.

Maddison was by far the most creative player on the pitch on Monday, with the 29-year-old demonstrating exactly what the Lilywhites have been missing over the last year and a half. The experienced Tottenham star has been named in the six-man shortlist for the Premier League Player of the Week award.

Here are the full contenders: Evanilson (AFC Bournemouth 2-0 Sunderland) Erling Haaland (Man City 3-2 Ipswich Town) Charalampos Kostoulas (Brighton 5-0 Crystal Palace) James Maddison (Spurs 3-1 Coventry) Johan Manzambi (Newcastle 0-1 Aston Villa) Pedro Neto (Everton 0-2 Chelsea) Spurs fans can vote for Maddison byclicking here Spurs' injury situation has cost them a lot of points already this season Tottenham's injury situation so far this season has been nowhere near as bad as it was over the last two years. However, the problem for De Zerbi has been that all three of his creative number tens, Maddison, Xavi Simons and Dejan Kulusevski, have been out at the same time.

This has forced the Tottenham boss to use Conor Gallagher, Mateus Fernandes and even Mohammed Kudus in that role. While Gallagher has certainly impressed with his energy and his pressing, there is no doubt that Spurs would have created a lot more chances had they had one of the other three available to start matches, given how much they have dominated territorially in some matches.
