Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Chelsea for this Serie A striker

In a recentreport, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Chelsea for Monza striker Gustavo Varela. It has been mentioned that Spurs are facing competition from the Blues, Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford and Fulham in the race to land the Portuguese forward next year.

Varela's Impressive Form In Italian Football Varela has enjoyed a good run of form at the Italian club this season as he has put in a lot of productive displays for them in the final third. The 21-year-old has banged in 11 goals and earned one assist in ten appearances for Monza in this campaign so far in multiple competitions.

The Portuguese talent is currently among the most gifted forwards in Serie A. Hence, it is no wonder that Spurs are eyeing a move to recruit him next year.

His current contract at the Portuguese club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Tottenham to land him this January or at the end of this season. Varela is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal and has the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third.

He is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can chip in by scoring his fair share of goals up top. Standing at 1.84m, the Portuguese sensation can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition defenders in the air.

However, there are some question marks on whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if Spurs manage to snap him up next year. We can expect Varela to add more quality and depth to Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi's frontline.

He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. At 21, Varela has the potential to be a future star in English football as long as he continues to improve with each season.

Therefore, he would be a great option for Spurs to consider this January or at the end of this campaign.
