Tottenham were planning to raid Ligue 1 club for their star striker in the summer. Tottenham Hotspur's attacking troubles are becoming a major problem for Roberto De Zerbi this season.

We are already eight games into the new Premier League campaign, and the Lilywhites have managed to score just eight goals under the Italian tactician's guidance. The attack is misfiring, with the forwards struggling to find the back of the net this time around.

Spurs addressed their attacking problems during the summer transfer window, bringing in Savio, Omar Marmoush and Mykhailo Mudryk as part of the major squad overhaul at N17. However, despite making such a significant investment in new players, scoring goals continues to be an issue.

Centre-forwards Dominic Solanke and Omar Marmoush have netted a goal apiece in the Premier League. 9 was being targeted who could potentially displace Solanke in the first XI. Now, it hasemergedthat Roberto De Zerbi wanted to reunite with a former striker of his in the summer.

According to French newspaper La Provence, Tottenham showed interest in signing Marseille centre-forward Amine Gouiri in the final days of the transfer window. It's not clear whether the contact was with his camp, Marseille or both.

Eventually, a move did not materialise, and he stayed at Marseille. De Zerbi oversaw the signing of Amine Gouiri at Marseille from Stade Rennais in January 2025.

He managed26 goals and 10 assists from 53 matches, and 17 goals and six assists were under De Zerbi. Marseille have scored 18 goals in Ligue 1 this season, and the Algerian international has contributed to eight (five goals and two assists).

Gouiri managed 11 goals and five assists from 28 matches last season due to multiple injury problems. The setbacks have been hampering his displays on the pitch this season.
