UEFA Champions League: Mbappe 5 goals away from equalling Ronaldo's scoring record

Spread the word Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is closing in on one of Cristiano Ronaldo's most remarkable UEFA Champions League records after scoring in six consecutive matches in Europe's elite club competition. The French international extended his scoring streak during Real Madrid's 3-2 victory over AEK Athens on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, taking his run to six successive Champions League appearances with at least one goal.

Mbappe now needs to score in five more consecutive matches to equal Ronaldo's record of finding the net in 11 successive Champions League games, blueprint reports. The Portuguese legend established the record during the 2016/17 and 2017/18 campaigns while playing for Real Madrid.

How Mbappe built his six-match streak Mbappe's current scoring run features goals against Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, AS Roma, RB Leipzig and AEK Athens. The forward scored twice against Bayern Munich across the relevant encounters, before continuing his impressive run against Inter, Roma, Leipzig and AEK Athens.

The achievement has also matched the longest consecutive Champions League scoring streak of his professional career, previously recorded during his time at Paris Saint-Germain in 2022. According to reports, the 27-year-old has scored in all four of Real Madrid's matches in the current Champions League league phase, further underlining his importance to the Spanish giants.

Ronaldo's 11-match benchmark Ronaldo's record dates back to the 2017 Champions League final, when he scored twice in Real Madrid's 4-1 victory over Juventus in Cardiff. He subsequently found the net in all six group-stage matches of the 2017/18 campaign before extending the streak into the knockout rounds.

The Portuguese forward scored in both legs of Real Madrid's round-of-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain and both quarter-final encounters against Juventus. His remarkable sequence produced 17 goals across 11 consecutive matches, a record that remains unmatched in the competition.

Real Madrid's upcoming fixtures offer opportunity Mbappe has an opportunity to continue closing the gap during Real Madrid's remaining league-phase fixtures. The Spanish side are scheduled to face PSV Eindhoven, Arsenal, LASK and Shakhtar Donetsk in their remaining league-phase matches.

However, even if he scores in all four encounters, he would reach 10 consecutive matches, leaving him one short of Ronaldo's record. He would therefore need to find the net in Real Madrid's opening knockout-stage fixture to equal the Portuguese forward's historic achievement.

Another chapter in the Ronaldo-Mbappe comparison The pursuit of Ronaldo's record adds another dimension to the growing comparisons between the two Real Madrid forwards. Ronaldo remains the Champions League's all-time leading scorer with 140 goals, while Mbappe continues to build his own impressive record in the competition.
