Vietnam's football team rank low in squad market value at FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026

Vietnam have a relatively low squad market value at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. Hosts Indonesia top the ranking at €21.59 million ($24.61 million), more than double Thailand's €9.5 million ($10.83 million).

Malaysia are third at €7.2 million ($8.21 million), followed by Bangladesh at €6.63 million ($7.56 million). Vietnam sit ahead of Pakistan at €4.38 million ($4.99 million), Singapore at €3.4 million ($3.88 million), and the Philippines at €3.39 million ($3.86 million).

However, market value does not necessarily reflect a team's strength on the pitch. At the AFF ASEAN Cup 2026, Indonesia also had the most valuable squad but they were eliminated in the group stage.

A reshaped squad Vietnam departed for Indonesia on Wednesday, with head coach Kim Sang Sik facing several personnel concerns ahead of the tournament. A day earlier, the Vietnam Football Federation and Hanoi Police FC confirmed that midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai would miss the competition through injury.

Kim responded by calling up Vo Hoang Minh Khoa, leaving Vietnam with limited natural options in central midfield. The squad nevertheless has a markedly different look thanks to a strong contingent of naturalized and overseas Vietnamese players.

Nguyen Xuan Son, Do Hoang Hen, Nguyen Tai Loc, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, and Patrik Le Giang are joined by newcomers Khoa Ngo, Adou Minh, and Williams Minh Hoang. Their presence gives Kim more options across the squad despite the injury setbacks.

Vietnam to open campaign against Philippines The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 runs from September 24 to October 3 during the FIFA international match window. The tournament is divided into Division 1 and Division 2, with Division 1 being held in Indonesia and Division 2 in Hong Kong, China.

Vietnam are in Group B of Division 1 alongside Thailand, Pakistan, and the Philippines, while Group A consists of Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and Singapore. Vietnam will face the Philippines in their opening match on September 26, followed by Thailand on September 29 and Pakistan on October 2.

Under the tournament format, the two group winners will advance to the final, while the two runners-up will contest the third-place play-off.
