Yanga clinch historic CAF Champions League group‑stage berth with 8‑1 aggregate win

Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC became the first team to qualify for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League group stage after a dominant 8‑1 aggregate triumph over Madagascar's CFFA. Young Africans SC booked a spot in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League group stage by defeating Madagascar's CFFA 8‑1 on aggregate, marking the first club to reach this phase of the competition.
The Tanzanian side sealed the qualification with a 4‑1 victory in the second leg at Dar es Salaam's Azam Complex Stadium on Wednesday, following a 4‑0 win in the first encounter at the same venue last Saturday. Ibrahim Kazimoto opened the scoring in the return match in the 27th minute, extending Yanga's aggregate lead to five goals.
Selemani Mwalimu then dominated the second half, netting twice - first four minutes after the break and again in the 53rd minute - to cement the hosts' control of the tie. Teenager Juma Issa Abushiri added a third goal for Yanga in the 82nd minute, prompting celebrations among home supporters as the club secured its fourth consecutive group‑stage appearance.
Head coach Manqoba Mngqithi welcomed the achievement but indicated the focus will now shift to preparing for the upcoming challenges of a busy season. Yanga will await the confirmation of the remaining 15 qualifiers, with the group stage slated to commence in November.
